Global ABCDEs

ABCDE South Africa 2008
ABCDE 2008 took place in Cape Town, South Africa on June 9-11, 2008. It was jointly organized by the World Bank and the National Treasury of South Africa.  The conference theme was "People, Politics, and Globalization" .

ABCDE Slovenia 2007
The Annual Bank Conference on Development Economics (ABCDE) 2007 took place in Bled, Slovenia, on May 17-18, 2007. The conference was co-organized by the World Bank and the Government of Slovenia. Story, May 18

The conference had as the overarching topic 'Private Sector and Development' and featured research papers on the following sub-topics, as well as working sessions:

1. Financial Inclusion
2. The business climate
3. The provision of public services by non-state actors: health, education, environment/water.

The conference also featured parallel sessions (workshops/ roundtables) related to the overarching theme of the conference and other issues relevant for international development.

ABCDE Tokyo 2006
Thanks to the generous support of the Japanese Ministry of Finance, ABCDE 2006 was held for the first time in East Asia on May 29-30, 2006 at Mita House in Tokyo.

The overall theme of the conference was "Rethinking Infrastructure for Development", covering several major topics relating to infrastructure and growth, climate change, energy efficiency, rural development, agriculture and the implications for regional cooperation.

A Keynote speech and panel discussions are planned for each of the following four topics, as well as working sessions:

1. Infrastructure and growth
2. Climate change, clean energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable development
3. Rural infrastructure and agricultural development
4. Infrastructure and regional cooperation

ABCDE Amsterdam 2005
The last ABCDE Europe was held in Amsterdam on May 23-24. The overall theme was "Securing Development in an Unstable World'.

ABCDE Europe 2004
2004 May
Acknowledging Europe's pivotal role in the provision of development assistance, the World Bank created in 1999 a distinctively European platform for debate on development issues, in order to bring the World Bank's research on development into closer contact with European perspectives.

ABCDE Europe 2003
2003 May
By bringing together an array of academics, politicians, institutes, think tanks, students and journalists, the ABCDE-Europe 2003 will provide an excellent opportunity to foster exchange of knowledge on and understanding of development issues. The ABCDE Europe 2003 is co-organized by the Agence française de développement (AfD) and the Conseil d'Analyse Économique (CAE) and hosted by the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Industry of France and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France.

ABCDE Europe 2001
2001 June
Annual Bank Conference on Development Economics (ABCDE) Europe 2001 was held on-line on June 25 & 26 for two-hours each day and featured web casts of keynote addresses and panel discussions by leading figures in development. Topics included Development in a World Without Borders and Policies and Actions to Accompany Globalization.
