The Development Economics Vice Presidency (DEC) is the World Bank's primary locus of high-quality research, macroeconomic monitoring, modeling, data collection and analysis. DEC and several donor countries created the KCP in 2002. The KCP team consists of DEC researchers and other senior Bank staff.
The KCP's charter contains detailed information on its trust funds and focus of activities, governance structure, procedures and criteria, funding, eligible expenditures, and dissemination. The program's three trust funds correspond to three main themes:
- Poverty Dynamics and Delivery of Basic Services
- Investment Climate, and Trade and Integration
- Global Public Goods
The overall objectives of the KCP are to: (1) act as an effective, transparent, and efficient vehicle for the pooling of intellectual and financial resources for data collection, analysis, and research supporting poverty reduction and sustainable development; (2) encourage and improve dialogue with partner agencies, developing country clients, and other parties; and (3) assist in the development of data collection, analysis, and research capacity in developing countries.
