About Bank Conferences on Development Economics

The Bank Conferences on Development Economics -- global and regional -- are one of the world's best known series of conferences for the presentation and discussion of new knowledge about development. First held at World Bank headquarters in Washington D.C. in 1988, the series has become broader in scope as the world's economies have become more interconnected and challenges have become more complex.

The global conferences are inclusive academic meetings with a global angle, whereas the regional conferences focus on regional-specific issues in the context of global economy. The regional conferences reflect the growing importance of research in developing countries.
