This World Bank research program covers a broad set of issues, including land policies, community driven development, irrigation and water resources management, agricultural technology diffusion, rural finance, rural and national infrastructure, motorization, rural-urban migration, economic geography and urban development, industrial and agricultural pollution, environmental health, land use and ecosystem preservation, and climate change.

Through its in-house Spatial Analysis Unit, the team has also developed a strong capability in the spatial analysis of economic issues including the use of GIS.

Africa exhibits great disparities in coverage by cell telephone systems and in this research, the authors investigate the determinants of these disparities with an econometric model that employs locational information for cell-phone towers across Sub-Saharan Africa. Full Article
