This research program on Poverty and Inequality aims to: - improve current data and methods of poverty and inequality analysis, including greater standardization of household survey data, and making data more accessible to users, and
- use the improved data and existing data sources to better understand pro-poor growth and why some growth processes have more impact on poverty than others.
Research Manager: Peter Lanjouw Research Highlights 2007 | Investing Back Home: Return Migration and Business Ownership in Albania March 6, 2008, Calogero Carletto,Talip Kilic, Benjamin Davis, and Alberto Zezza Recent research indicates Albanian households with higher exposure to past migration experience are more likely to invest in a small business upon the completion of their “migration cycle.” Both the destination and timing of migration play a role in determining investment decisions: as households with migrants that traveled to countries beyond neighboring Greece in the earlier waves of migration in the 1990s have a significantly higher likelihood of owning a small business.
